One of my main goals as a classroom teacher is to foster empathy, and I want my students to think about each other’s words and actions in relation to one another’s contexts and life experiences. There is no better way to do this than through storytelling with CultureBuilds.

EMPATHY & REFLECTION WORKSHOPS

To support a healthy education ecosystem, CultureBuilds by 2nd Story has developed a 90-minute workshop experience for students, teachers, staff, or parents that fosters empathy and encourages connection. Using theater exercises and storytelling techniques, participants will engage in activities that allow them to connect with their school community through the exchange of stories.

Student-centered experiences

When students can connect what they are learning in the classroom to their own lives, the learning becomes textured and memorable. CultureBuilds works with students in K-12, college, or Adult Learning programs to surface stories from their own experiences that connect to an instructor's themes and goals. We have crafted everything from a six-week in-school residency program for kindergarten students to a single day storytelling workshop for high school students.

STUDENT STORYTELLING TOOLS

These specially-designed workshops provide high school and college-aged students with storytelling tools to help with college applications and essays, preparing for a job or educational interview, as well as telling their story through a resume, presentation, or internship.

CultureBuilds has been a powerful experience for our parents. Through the two story circles we’ve hosted, our parents have had the opportunity to connect with each other on a deeper level, while also providing one another with support and encouragement. Our parents discussed issues around race, equity, and cultural identity that have allowed them to build cultural connections across our diverse school community.
